ABOUT THE ROUTES

From beginner to advanced, the Lexus Gran Fondo has three professionally designed routes for cyclists of all ability levels. Join Lexus Cycling Master Christian Vande Velde and professional cyclist George Hincapie on the ultra-challenging 100-mile ride from Boston to Cape Cod. Enjoy the scenery and picturesque towns on the 50-mile “Explore the Cape” route, or take it easy on the 28-mile “Easy Morning” ride.

100 MILE - SATURDAY, MAY 28

Starting from famed Boston Common, the 100-mile route heads south through the urban neighborhoods of Southie and Dorchester, then out into the country beyond Milton. From there, the route is a patchwork of quiet country roads, charming New England hamlets and scenic lake views. While the route is far from hilly, the small rollers do add up over the miles, leaving participants with over 2000 feet in cumulative climbing. Fortunately, most of the climbing comes early and participants are treated to a peaceful and flat final 10 miles along the popular Cape Cod Rail Trail and the Old Colony Rail Trail as they reach Chatham Bars Inn.

Please note: This route is for experienced cyclists and not suitable for a first 100-mile ride.

28-MILE - SATURDAY MAY 28

Just think of the 28-and 50-mile rides as concentrated versions of the 100-mile route – same gorgeous Cape Cod scenery, same postcard towns and same relaxing miles on the Cape Cod Rail Trail. These routes are perfect for the beginner or intermediate rider or for those who want to have a slightly more relaxing day. Unlike the 100-mile route, which starts in Boston, both the 28-and 50-mile routes start and finish at Lexus Hotel Partner Chatham Bars Inn. A slightly later start time (9:00 a.m.) means a bit more sleep before your day’s activities. This route twists north from Chatham, at times directly skirting the coast, then passes through the heart of Orleans to meet up with the Cape Cod Rail Trail, then weaves back to Chatham.

50-MILE - SATURDAY MAY 28

The 50-mile route is identical to the 28-mile route until the town of Orleans, when the routes diverge, with the 50-mile ride heading north a bit more to a beachfront turnaround and then ending with a casual ride back along the Cape Cod Rail Trail. Both routes are flatter than the 100-mile ride and suitable for all ability levels and bikes.
